The Giorgio Angeli sculpture studio is one of the best known workshops for the creation of contemporary sculpture.
Since the early 1970s Giorgio Angeli – under the influence of his mentor Erminio Cidonio – has made this into a perfect place for artists to find the inspiration to make sculpture for the Italian and overseas markets.
A good example of this is the sculpture “Slide Mantra” by Isamu Noguchi, commissioned for a Miami park, and which was first exhibited in front of the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of 1986.
The workshop, which stands among ancient olive trees, has been extended over the years as new needs of customers, illustrious names in contemporary sculpture, have required changes to be made to its structure and equipment.
The work space is organised around an open area with studios facing it, each individually equipped for the sculptors, and specialised work spaces with the latest machinery for cutting blocks, polishing, perforating and various other stages in marble working.
There is also a garden museum exhibiting some works which outline the workshop’s thirty years of existence as a crucible for the creative impulse.
