Giancarlo was born in Pietrasanta in 1959, began sculpture with the encouragement of his father, Urbano (a sculptor), and obtained a diploma in 1983 from the Sculpture department of the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara, specialising in sculpture.
Following his studies he started work with his father. Much of his work has been in the field of portraiture, including those dedicated to Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, Nicolas Sarkozy and the King Gustaf of Sweden. He has also sculpted several monuments, like that of the “Cane guida per ciechi (Guide dog for the blind)" (Scandicci, 1996), “Papa Giovanni Polo II (Pope John Paul II)” (Salerno, 1998), “L\\\'uomo e il tempo (Man and time)" (Toronto, 2002) and the bronze door for the bell-tower of the collegiate church of Montefredente (Bologna, 2003).
His work also includes religious and decorative pieces and copies of classical sculptures, and he also works with numerous other artists. He has produced many sculptures now in private collections in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Great Britain. Since 1982 he has exhibited his works in various public and private galleries in Italy and Holland. He has been a member of the National Sculpture Society of New York since 1997.
