This studio opened in 1978, but its “founding partners”, Giovanni and Giuliano Stagi, Giorgio Bibolotti and Daniele Loghtmans, have each been working on mosaics for about 40 years. The company’s name was changed in 2004. Roberto, Giuliano’s son, joined and Giovanni stayed on.
They have had plenty of time over the years to try out all possible mosaic languages and have chosen glass paste as their favourite medium, partly because they mainly dealt with religious themes in the beginning. Mosaics of this type usually require the use of an infinite variety of tone that is only possible with glass paste. For example there are at least five tones of both gold and silver available.
