Rizieri Alberto Da Prato has been working on mosaics for about fifty years. After learning the trade in the workshops of Ferrari, Bacci and Fevret (where he worked for about twenty years), he set up this craftsman\'s workshop in 1984.
Here he creates both Venetian glass paste and marble tessera mosaics with great mastery. 90% of production is for the religious sector and is mainly commissioned by clients in the United States for the decoration of Greek Orthodox churches there.
However, mosaics have also been installed as decoration in corporate buildings (one famous example is the 20 metre diameter floor covering in the South African hotel where the Miss Universe contest is held), for housing, and as portraits (those for various emirs are of note).
The workshop also collaborates with artists:
for example, a 50 square metre mosaic for a Japanese museum dedicated to the sculptor Vangi, and work for Nal, the hyper-realist.
However, an area in which he is particularly interested is the transformation of well known paintings or sketches by contemporary artists into the language of mosaic.
