FERRARI & BACCI has worked in Pietrasanta for over sixty years and differs from the other mosaics schools in its use of "pointillist technique" which allows any colour tones to be obtained by a mixing of colours that gives a particularly refined effect.

It became a leader in the sector in the space of a few years and received big orders, especially from the USA (working on numerous mausoleums and churches).  At the same time it developed a school of Byzantine mosaic which carried out large jobs for Greek Orthodox churches and its marble mosaics department built pavements, wall coverings, tables, swimming pools and made portraits for big hotel chains, Arab princes and media personalities. Several different techniques are used to build mosaics: direct, indirect on special resins (for wall mosaics), positive or on “synthetic mesh” for marble, on the “light” type for fitting out ships.

A department dedicated to the restoration and recovery of existing mosaics was set up a few years ago. It has been involved in recovering some works found in monumental cemeteries, the restoration of the Great Altar in the Basilica Superiore di Assisi damaged in the earthquake of 1997, and the reconstruction of Berlin Cathedral\'s dome mosaics.
