Danilo Cervietti started working in the marble workshops of Pietrasanta at the time when a craftsman learned the trade from a very early age. Then, after a long period of experience in marble sculpture, he opened a workshop in 1962 (with partners Moreno and Sergio). Here, helped by his son and present owner, Franco, he amassed one of the richest collections in Italy of works in plaster, including pieces that are hundreds of years old.
Now Franco’s sons are to be found in the workshop: Hayato and Hideki produce works including reproductions of classical and modern marble sculpture, sacred and funerary art, portraiture and restoration. Only a few of the many examples of their work can be mentioned here:
exact copies of works by Michelangelo, Canova and Cellini; the bust of George Bush, commissioned by the Campidoglio; nine deities from Greek mythology and nine Nifee for the Dutch village of Nagasaki; copies of two six metre high decorated columns to replace the originals on the façade of Siena Cathedral; and, last but not least, the production of modern sculpture for artists like I. Mitoraj, F. Botero, J.M. Folon, K. Winsor, I. Theimer, J.F. Sorensen and very many others who have made their name and works known throughout the world.
